What Do Grey Herons Eat (And Other Facts)

The heron is a native bird to Europe, Asia, and Africa. It’s a wading bird, and can be seen around wetlands, feeding on various water creatures, such as fish, amphibians, and small mammals. I do birdwatching in Düsseldorf, Germany, and I see this lovely bird very often around the Rhine and in lakes and ponds in the city’s parks. It’s a tall bird (up to 1 meter, or 3 ft 3 in) and very impressive, in particular when you see it standing motionless, planning to catch a fish or other prey.
