I’ve heard that cats love bird videos, so I created a Cat TV bird watching playlist for cats to keep them from getting too bored.
Why and How:
Cats Love Bird Watching
Cats love bird watching. Everyone knows that, right? Weirdly, I was not aware of this until I started researching about cats before adopting Magenta. As I already told you, I used to be more of a dog person.
Before adopting Magenta, I started reading books and watching videos about cats. This way, I got to this great video by the mentor, Jackson Galaxy, talking about bird videos for cats:
Living in the center of the city, I knew that my cat will be an exclusively indoor kitty. I followed Jackson’s advice and got everything ready for a birdwatching station to keep her from getting too bored.
Cat TV Live: Bird Watching For Cats
To build a bird watching station for your cat, you’ll need:
- Window (overlooking a balcony, garden or other place where you can place a bird feeder)
- Cat tree placed near the window
Check out cat trees on Amazon or Happy and Polly.
- Bird feeding station, including bird feeder, food, bird bath
Once you and your cat start bird watching, you’ll be amazed by the variety of birds you can see, even if you live in the middle of the city. On my balcony, we see blackbirds, great and blue tit, European robins and goldfinches.
Here are some examples of my cat watching birds:

Make a Catio For Your Cat
If you have a garden, balcony, or something similar with enough room, you can also let your cat outside in a way that is safe for both your pet and the birds. I got a very tall cage and use it as a bird watching catio. Again, another great Jackson Galaxy idea.
Note: Only use it when you’re nearby and can let your cat back in!
Cat TV: Bird Videos on YouTube
After a while of letting my cat watch birds on her own, I thought it might be a good idea to film the birds, too. I now share my bird watching videos on YouTube, hoping to help other bored cats in their quest of finding their perfect feathered friend. Check out this playlist of bird videos for cats, I update it regularly.
