I’ve already written about my camera and my bird watching hobby, but I just realized I still haven’t written about the most important thing. My cats! Are two cats better than one? Let me tell you about Magenta the tabby and her brother, Rocky the birman.
Let’s start:
Cats or Dogs?
I’ve always been a bit more of a dog person. As a teenager in Israel, we had a dog, whom we named Prince (but had countless nicknames, such as Fitz, Gianni, Basil, and more, as I was quite creative back then). Even though he hated many people, he was the sweetest thing to us and I really loved him. Loved him so much that I created nice photos of him in various locations in the pre-photoshop era. So realistic, isn’t it?
Later, I left my parents’ house, moved to another city and started studying. Fitz passed away, and I—living in the dorms and in rented apartments (first in Israel, then Germany) —never got the chance to adopt a dog, even though I really wanted to.
Enter COVID.
<dramatic break>
After the first wave of isolation and despair, living abroad far away from the family, I felt I had to get a pet. NOW. So, my partner and I asked our landlord, and he said (in German, but you get the gist): “no to dogs, but you can get a cat”. I was, as I said, more of a dog person, but thought that cat is better than nothing.
So we got one!
Magenta the Tabby
Our sweet little tabby Magenta was born on April 2020 and adopted on June the same year.
We named her Magenta after long considerations. It’s really difficult to find a nice and not overly used name for a female cat, I think. The name Magenta was finally hosen after the Rocky Horror Picture Show character (not the color).
At some point later, after Magenta escaped, disappeared, and came back (read about it here), we decided she needed a friend, and got Rocky.
Rocky the Birman
Rocky was born on October 2021 and adopted on February 2022.
Why Rocky? Again, because of Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the movie, Rocky is a beautiful man, but not very bright. We thought this fits our birman cat perfectly (note: we now know he’s not stupid, just a bit goofy).
Find Cat Tips
Two Cats Vs. One
Now our two cats live together, have a love/hate relationship, and keep us company when we’re bored, trying to work, or use the toilets. Exactly as promised in every feline manual.
So the answer to the question is yes, two cats are better than one. Te two kitties can keep each other’s company when we’re busy, play with each other in a way only felines can, and be an anchor for each other in a new environment (such as cat hotel if we’re away). True, they don’t always get along, but when I see my two kitties sitting or napping next to each other (see photo above), my heart just melts.
I dedicate this blog, my videos, and all of my other online platforms to my cats, the crazy furry felines who converted me from being a dog person to a cat person.
